Every now and and then, while listening to the radio, I’ll hear the singer launch into that familiar refrain “Whoa, whoa, whoa..”. I used to think that the singer was so consumed by love (or lust) that he found himself at a loss for words. Now that I’m older and a little more cynical, I think this may just be lyrical laziness – the singer couldn’t come up with a decent line, so he added this monosyllabic filler, and figured if he sang it in concert with his eyes closed and one arm outstretched toward the audience, then no one would be the wiser.
